Position Summary:

The Physical Therapist is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of functional deficits or problems due to illness, injury, musculoskeletal dysfunction, or birth defect. They work independently or under orders of physician/licensed independent practitioners, works with individuals birth through geriatrics, works in outpatient, acute care and post-acute care settings. PTs are responsible for the development and implementation of treatment programs, delegation to and supervision of PTAs and support staff, patient, family, and community education, and the documentation of the above. The Physical Therapist strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product or service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and family experience and recognizes and demonstrates an understanding of patient and family centered care.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assesses patients to determine their needs, age-related problems, strengths, and rehabilitation potential. This includes periodic reassessment. 
  • Plans individualized treatment programs based on assessment results, physician's orders, and clinical judgment.
  • Documents all necessary information in the patient's medical record. 
  • Delegates treatment tasks to others as appropriate (PTAs, students, technicians) and monitors application and results of treatment. The PT is legally responsible for supervising all treatment delegated to non-PTs. 
  • Coordinates services and treatment plan with patient, family, and other disciplines. 
  • Serves as Clinical Instructor or mentor, when requested, for PT and PTA students. 
  • Teaches patient and family regarding disease or injury, treatment plan, self-help measures, and preventive care. 
  • Treats patients according to the assessment results and treatment plan established, using treatment modalities and techniques appropriate to the patient's age, diagnosis, condition, and physical. 
  • Provides education to other departments and the public, when requested, through in-services, lectures, or classes.
  • Demonstrates job-related aspects of patient safety to assure a safe environment, safe and effective use of equipment and technology, and decreased risk of potential adverse patient occurrences. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's and division's policies and procedures. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports hospital's mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, corporate compliance plan, customer service.
  • Performs other related duties as required and directed.


Requirements:

Education-
  • Graduate from an accredited bachelor’s level or higher physical therapy program.
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Michigan. 
Experience-
  • Successful completion of all fieldwork placements. 
  • Demonstrated competency in physical therapy principles/techniques. Field experience in physical therapy. 
Certification Requirements-
  • BLS (AHA)
  • State License Requirements-Michigan
  • Additional License Requirements-Active at time of submission!​​​​​
