Position Summary:
The Director is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and operations of My Michigan’s laboratory departments to meet organizational needs. This role provides leadership and expertise in managing the department, including accountability for human resources, financial management, and quality management. The Director supports My Michigan's mission, vision, and strategic objectives through effective management of the department and its programs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership development and oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Coordinates meetings and committees related to the support of patient care and staff development.
- In collaboration with appropriate stakeholders, develops and coordinates workgroups to address organizational goals.
- Develop and monitor performance indicators/metrics for assigned departments/services.
- Support My Michigan compliance efforts reports, resolve areas of non-compliance, and maintain confidentiality.
- Protects organizational assets and exhibits consistent application of personal/business ethics and integrity and facilitates excellent communication, internally and externally.
- Evaluate business initiatives and recommend process/system redesign and new services.
- Responsible for the oversight and performance of laboratory employees to deliver quality test results to physicians and patients.
- Maintains College of American Pathologists (CAP), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Joint Commission, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) standards and accreditation.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions:
- Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as trauma, grief, and death.
- Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitutes if required for your position.
- Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
- Overall, vision and hearing are necessary with or without assisted device(s).
- Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
- Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow My Michigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, have regular and predictable attendance, and ability to stay awake.
- Overall dexterity is required, including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling. Repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis may be required.
- Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
Requirements:
Certifications and Licensures-
- MLS- Medical Laboratory Scientist ASPC.
- Bachelor's degree in a Medical Laboratory Science.
- Master's degree in related field.
- 3 years of clinical laboratory experience and 5 years of management experience in healthcare.
- Trauma Level II experience required.
- Leadership skills needed to effectively direct a group.
- Written and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
- Knowledge of basic techniques in financial analysis.
